In den letzten Jahren hat sich in der Entwicklung moderner, nichtoxidischer keramischer Werkstoffe enorm viel getan.
Dabei kommt Siliziumcarbid besonders bei der Entwicklung von Rußpartikelfiltern zum Einsatz.
Für die deutsche Automobilindustrie ist beispielsweise die Entwicklung von Dieselrußfiltern und ihr Einsatz bei der Serienausstattung in KFZ
von besonderem Interesse.
Momentan hat Frankreich (Peugeot) bei der serienmäßigen Ausstattung von KFZ mit Dieselrußfiltern die Nase vorn.
