Online lecture for the benefit of the Frankfurt School Hardship Fund for war refugees.
Professor Philipp Sandner, one of the most distinguished blockchain experts in Germany, will hold a public lecture on “Bitcoin, geopolitics, and ESG” online on 15 June at 12:00 CEST. The Frankfurt School professor will discuss the value of crypto assets in times of crisis and whether it still makes sense to invest in them in the current situation. The lecture will be held in English.
The participation fee is 20 euro, completely flowing into the Frankfurt School Hardship Fund – a Frankfurt School initiative giving a perspective to students who have fled war and want to study at the business school. Eligible students receive a full scholarship as well as financial support from the Hardship Fund to cover their living expenses.

Background
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Bitcoin and other crypto-assets have been plummeting in value while simultaneously gaining geopolitical relevance. Refugees are using crypto assets to move value across borders; crypto exchanges have imposed sanctions to prevent Russian oligarchs from moving their assets into crypto assets. Ultimately, we learned that while tanngible assets can be seized, crypto-assets are held in custody in such a way that this is not possible due to their technical implementation.
Against the backdrop of rising inflation, Philipp Sandner's lecture also addresses the question of whether the use of crypto-assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, also due to their nature as scarce, finite resources, is a way to mitigate the inflation risk inherent in conventional currencies.
The Frankfurt School Hardship Fund
Frankfurt School offers a perspective to students fleeing war in their home countries. Eligible candidates can start or continue their studies at the business school. They are awarded a full scholarship. To cover their living expenses, these students need financial support.
