Spanish government supports research on nanocatalysts by Max Planck scientist
The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness awarded Dr. Alba Garzón Manjón, postdoctoral researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE), with a grant from the Ramón y Cajal grants program. The program aims at promoting researchers with an outstanding track record and involves a five-years employment grant with a perspective of a permanent employment offer at a university or research center in Spain. Additionally, Garzón Manjón receives funding for her research activities.
“I’m really happy and proud to receive this prestigious award and a permanent position in Spain. Thanks also to my group leader Tina and the support from the MPIE”, says Garzón Manjón. She works in the group “Nanoanalytics and Interfaces” of Prof. Christina Scheu and was mentee in the MPIE female career program. Garzón Manjón’s research focusses on the development of advanced catalysts for the production of sustainable energy. During her research project in Spain, she will use advanced (scanning) transmission electron microscopy and synchrotron spectroscopy to analyse at the sub-nanometre scale the structure, composition, stability and degradation of catalysts for energy applications.
Candidates for the Ramón y Cajal program are selected upon a rigorous competitive process based on their curricular merits and on their ability to lead a line of research, according to their scientific and professional experience, as well as the independence of their career. In the end of the five-years support, the researcher will undergo an evaluation of their scientific-technical activity. Being successful here guarantees a permanent group leader position at a Spanish university or research centre.
