IKZ receives approval of the extraordinary item of expenditure “Crystal Technology for Technological Sovereignty”

The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) will expand to the leading European research center for the development of innovative crystalline prototypes for electronic and photonic key technologies.

In its autumn meetings in September and October 2021, the Joint Science Conference (GWK) approved the funding of the strategic expansion of the Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) to strengthen its ability to deliver in the field of crystalline prototypes for electronics and photonics.

The IKZ extraordinary item of expenditure “Crystal Technology for Technological Sovereignty” aims at the extension of the value chain at the IKZ, namely to be able to make crystalline materials with high technology potential available to research partners from science and industry as precise prototypes for technology development in a reproducible and reliable way.

„Without the availability of crystalline prototype materials, there is no technology development by device makers feasible, without a clear market pull from technology, however, there is no sufficient financial basis for the cost-intensive development of unique research materials towards reproducible prototypes with clear specifications. We can now solve this classical chicken-and-egg problem, as it has been a central innovation gap from material to technology for too long. Because only those who control new materials will be able to enable innovative, even disruptive technologies in future” explains Prof. Dr. Thomas Schroeder, director of the IKZ.

As part of this extraordinary item of expenditure of the Leibniz Association, from 2023 onwards, the IKZ will be supported with additional €2.2 million per year for the establishment and implementation of this modern research and development strategy.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
