New Administrative Director at the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut

Petra Immerz Pressestelle
Ferdinand-Braun-Institut gGmbH Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik

The Berlin-based Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) has a new Administrative Director: Dr. Karin-Irene Eiermann (46). She comes from the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and, together with the long-time Scientific Director Prof. Dr. Günther Tränkle, now forms the new dual leadership of FBH gGmbH. Eiermann replaces Christian Köhler-Ma, who had been the interim Administrative Head of the institute in Berlin-Adlershof from January 2021 following the change of the corporate form to a non-profit GmbH.

"With Karin-Irene Eiermann, we have been able to attract an accomplished leader who will enrich our institute with her many years of experience in management positions," says Prof. Tränkle. He is very much looking forward to shaping the future course of the steadily growing institute together with her.

Eiermann, who most recently held the position of Administrative Director of the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin, is excited about the new challenge: "FBH has been an established, scientifically outstanding research institution for decades. I will strive to consolidate and continuously expand this status together with the Scientific Director. In particular, I would like to promote the further development of the administrative and science-supporting departments."

Eiermann's previous positions in science administration include that of general manager of the cybersecurity research profile area at Technische Universität Darmstadt as well as positions at acatech – the German Academy of Science and Engineering in Berlin and the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam. She studied business administration and economics and also holds a master's degree in East Asian Studies from the USA and a doctorate in modern history.

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Bernd Lietzau, thanked Eiermann's predecessor Köhler-Ma for having ensured a successful start of the new company as its founding Administrative Director: "This task has now been fulfilled. The institute can continue its successful course – supported by an experienced science manager," said the Head of Division in Berlin’s Science Administration.
