Editorial seat of geoscience magazine „Elements“ moves to University of Bayreuth

„Elements“, an internationally highly regarded print and online geoscience magazine, has moved its editorial headquarters to the Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry & Geophysics (BGI) at the University of Bayreuth. The new editor-in-chief is Bayreuth geoscientist Dr. Esther Posner. Until now, the journal, which was founded in 2005, was edited from the USA and Canada.

„Elements“ is jointly published by 18 international geoscience societies and appears six times a year. Each issue focuses on a current topic in geochemistry and mineralogy, such as the causes and impact of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis, or the role of certain chemical elements in the formation of planets. Unlike other scientific journals, „Elements“ is not only aimed at smaller groups of experts but also, for example, at students, teachers at schools, managers in science-promoting institutions and researchers in industrial companies, or even private mineral collectors. "‘Elements‘ is the fine art of geoscientific literature. The articles are characterized by clear graphics, comprehensibly prepared figures and a linguistically relaxed presentation of the latest findings. As the new editor-in-chief, I want to continue this editorial line from Bayreuth in order to continue to appeal to a broader audience," says Dr. Esther Posner.

Posner is the third editor-in-chief of „Elements“, following Dr. Jodi Rosso (Washington/USA, 2015-2022) and Dr. Pierrette Tremblay (Quebec/Canada, 2005-2014). A strong interest in the chemical evolution of planets had led her to the Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry & Geophysics (BGI) in 2013, where she received her PhD in 2017 with a dissertation on experimental and theoretical high-pressure geochemistry. For her research results, she received the prestigious Rock and Mineral Physics Graduate Research Award from the American Geophysical Union. In the years that followed, Posner continued her scientific work at BGI as a laboratory manager and as a postdoctoral fellow. At the same time, she developed a growing interest in science communication, which led her to work as a freelance consultant and editor for international science publications. On assuming the post as editor-in-chief of „Elements“, Posner says, "BGI is the 'Hollywood' of high-pressure experimental geoscience. It is a great honor to bring the ‚Elements‘ editorial staff to this world-class research institute." Prof. Daniel Frost, BGI's deputy director, has also held senior positions with the geoscience magazine: He chaired the Executive Committee of „Elements“ for several years and was its representative for the European Association of Geochemistry.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
