Constructor University hosts successful Google Coding Competition

Constructor University in Bremen recently hosted the Google Coding Competition, bringing together over 10,000 programming enthusiasts from around the world. The competition saw students from the international university excel in all four competitive classes, with four participants placing among the top performers. For the first time, the university was one of only three locations hosting the event in Germany.

In four performance classes, from beginners to masters, the challenge was to solve tasks set by Google within a set timeframe. No less than four students from Constructor University came out among the front runners: Gleb Ingman, Vakhtang Elizbarashvili, Ivan Klimov and Ilia Brovarnik. The event was supported by JetBrains, a software company partner of the university.

The fact that the Google Coding Competition could be held on the Constructor University campus in the first place, is due to the commitment of the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC). A team led by students Ainna Zafar, Maksim Martynov, Bering Tafa, Matias Merko and Gleb Ingman applied to Google to host the event - with a track record of successes: a team from Constructor University won the Google Europe Ideathon in 2022 and one just recently made it to the top 100 finalists in the 2023 Google Solution Challenge.
The GDSC project management team headed by Ali Alam planned and led a series of “G-Bytes” events for the Solution Challenge. These events were aimed at deriving the process from design thinking, ideation, UI/UX design to the complete application development life-cycle. Around 1,200 Google Developer Student Clubs around the world compete for Google's Annual Solution Challenge.

The GDSC supports the university's tech community through a series of initiatives ranging from skill development to international competitions. After the great and positive response to the Google Coding Competition, the club plans to hold programming competitions of its own in the future.
