University of Bayreuth among the best young universities worldwide

Jennifer Opel Pressestelle
Universität Bayreuth

The prestigious, international THE Young University Ranking of "Universities under 50" places the University of Bayreuth among the top 10 percent worldwide. This is further proof of its high academic reputation.

THE Young University Ranking evaluates universities younger than 50 years in five categories: Teaching, Research, Impact of Research (citations), Internationality of Staff, Students and Researchers, and Knowledge Transfer to Industry. It has been published annually since 2012. The University of Bayreuth has been taking part since 2013 - and has firmly established itself in the upper field. This year, it is ranked 59th out of a total of 605 universities. This puts the University of Bayreuth in the top ten percent of young universities worldwide, and in third place in Germany.

"In Bayreuth, we work together internationally and interdisciplinarily, and that is important for researchers and students," says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. "Our Collaborative Research Centres Microplastics and Biofabrication are established examples of this. Now we are adding the new SFB MultiTrans, which aims to improve the performance of batteries, solar cells, fuel cells and photocatalysts. With these highly specialised Collaborative Research Centres, we are tackling the problems that are driving humanity. This is recognised and rewarded internationally. Our excellent performance in THE Young University Ranking underlines the international visibility of the University of Bayreuth."

In addition, the QS World University Ranking published last week shows that the University of Bayreuth has further increased its reputation here as well, moving up two places compared to the previous year - and this despite the fact that more universities were included in the ranking this year. The annually published QS World University Ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds combines general rankings of universities worldwide with subject rankings and regional comparisons, e.g. from Asia, Central Asia, Latin America and Europe.
