Dr. Klaus Boehnke, Professor of Social Science Methodology at Constructor University in Bremen, has been honored with the Ralph K. White Lifetime Achievement Award for his life's work and his significant contributions to peace psychology. The award was presented by the American Psychological Association (APA), the world's largest professional organization of psychologists.
"The award means a lot to me because it reflects my dedication to my research and its importance for society at large," said Boehnke, who has recently attracted public attention for his intercultural research on social cohesion in Germany and on diversity and inequality. His studies on xenophobia and right-wing extremism have also been widely discussed.
Awards are nothing new for Boehnke. In 2021, APA honored him with the title "outstanding psychologist outside the USA". From the International Council of Psychologists, he received the Fukuhara Award in 2019. In line with the Ralph K. White Lifetime Achievement Award Boehnke will hold a presentation at the APA convention in Seattle, USA, next year.
Ralph K. White, who was born in 1907 and died in 2007, is considered one of the pioneers of peace psychology, which primarily researches how conflicts within and between nations can be resolved without violence. He made a name for himself primarily with academic work on intercultural communication, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the threat of nuclear weapons.
