The Professorship of Distributed and Self-Organizing Systems at TUC is a project partner in the EU-funded initiative ENFIELD, taking a leading role in researching solutions in the context of trustworthy AI

The Professorship of Distributed and Self-Organizing Systems (Head: Prof. Dr. Martin Gaedke) at Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) is part of an international consortium to establish a European Center of Excellence for AI Research. The consortium includes 30 members from 18 countries.

The goal of the European Lighthouse to Manifest Trustworthy and Green AI (ENFIELD) project is to bring together cutting-edge research, new technologies, and the resources of renowned research and industry players in Europe to advance fundamental research in the areas of adaptive, green, human-centered and trustworthy AI. It also aims to explore how AI applications can be better accepted and widely implemented.

For this, a total of 76 researchers are collaborating in 18 sub-projects. The European Commission is providing over eleven million euros for the entire project over a period of three years. The project kicked off on September 1, 2023.

As part of the ENFIELD project, the Professorship of Distributed and Self-Organizing Systems at TUC will focus in particular on the area of trustworthy AI. "Within the context of this major European research initiative, we want to develop new solutions at Chemnitz University of Technology for how we can deal with AI applications in a trustworthy manner in the future - for example in the area of critical infrastructures. We are placing a focus on human-centered AI, for which there are applications in the particularly sensitive healthcare sector, among others," says Prof. Dr. Martin Gaedke, whose professorship will lead contributions to ENFIELD.
