At this year's General Assembly of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), Gianaurelio Cuniberti, Professor of Materials Science and Nanotechnology at TU Dresden, was awarded membership in the academy by handing over the official certificate.

As a national academy and as a voice of the engineering sciences in Germany and abroad, acatech brings together more than 600 personalities from science and industry. Members are active in engineering and natural sciences, medicine, humanities and social sciences and are awarded membership on the basis of their scientific achievements and reputation. acatech regularly publishes policy papers, studies, discussions and other publications on socially and economically relevant topics. It consults politics on issues related to technology and science.

"I am very honored to become a member of this distinguished group of leading researchers," says Cuniberti. "The election is both an honor and a commitment, as acatech advises policymakers and society on issues of the future in science and technology policy."

The research activities of Prof. Cuniberti at TU Dresden currently focus on data-driven discovery of materials and the digital sense of smell. He is the Principal Investigator in numerous projects funded by private and public funding agencies and his scientific work is documented in over 500 scientific publications. Cuniberti initiates and organizes numerous workshops, summer schools, as well as conferences and participates in international research training networks that provide extensive opportunities for young scientists. He has given keynote and plenary lectures at a large number of international meetings and is co-editor of the journals Nanoscale and Nanoscale Advances. He acts as a consultant for various research centers and universities. Several spin-off companies have already successfully emerged from his research group at TU Dresden, thus making an active contribution to technology transfer.
