One woman and four men are among the world's most cited researchers

One woman and four men from Hannover Medical School (MHH) are among the most cited researchers in the world: MHH Professor Dr Yang Li, Professor Dr Johann Bauersachs, Professor Dr Marius Hoeper, Professor Dr Thomas Thum and Professor Dr Thomas Werfel are among the world's most influential researchers. This was the result of the latest analysis of scientific publications carried out by Clarivate Analytics. The annual list of "Highly Cited Researchers" shows which publications in each discipline are among the one per cent that have been cited the most.

Results that scientists publish in scientific journals can be used by other researchers worldwide for their own work - if they mark them as citations in their own publications. The number of citations serves as an indicator of the scientific influence as well as the reputation of the journal in which the publication was published.

The current list includes around 7,125 researchers from 23 disciplines in the natural, life and social sciences. The "Who's Who" of science also provides information about the countries and research institutions in which the scientific elite work. 336 of these experts work in Germany, putting it in fourth place worldwide - behind the USA, China and the UK. The entire "Highly Cited Researchers" list can be found at https://clarivate.com/highly-cited-researchers/.

Five MHH researchers in the "Highly Cited Researchers" list

Professor Dr Yang Li is Director of the Centre for Individualised Infection Medicine (CiiM), which the MHH runs jointly with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Medicine. The data scientist's research focuses on applying and developing computer-assisted and statistical approaches to investigate the effect of genetic factors - at a variety of molecular levels (e.g. genetics, metabolomics), immunological parameters and functions as well as infectious and immune diseases.

Professor Dr Johann Bauersachs is Director of the MHH Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology. His research focuses on left ventricular healing and remodelling, acute and chronic heart failure and intensive care medicine; he has a particular scientific interest in peripartum cardiomyopathy.

Professor Dr Marius Hoeper is Deputy Director of the Clinic for Pneumology and Respiratory Medicine. His research focuses on pulmonary hypertension, i.e. pulmonary hypertension.

Professor Dr Thomas Thum is Director of the MHH Institute for Molecular and Translational Therapy Strategies. For many years, the cardiologist and bioscientist has been researching the functional characterisation and translational potential of RNA molecules for new therapies against cardiovascular diseases. He recently succeeded in bringing an RNA therapy into the clinic for the treatment of heart failure for the first time worldwide.

Professor Dr Thomas Werfel is Director of the MHH Clinic for Dermatology, Allergology and Venereology. His research focuses on immunological processes and innovative therapies for severe inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis) and allergies. In this context, he also deals with issues relating to the particular susceptibility of those affected to infections in the RESIST Cluster of Excellence at the MHH.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
