Ten scientists have been selected to join the EMBO Global Investigator Network, an initiative that enables excellent early-stage group leaders based in Chile, India, Singapore, and Taiwan to access a wide range of collaboration, networking, and training activities.
The selected scientists explore fundamental research questions relating to neurodegenerative disorders, drug-resistant bacteria, precision immunology, leaf epidermal development, single-cell proteomics, and other fields.
Fiona Watt, EMBO Director said: “The EMBO Global Investigator Network provides the next generation of scientific leaders with opportunities to learn, network, and share ideas with others in their region and around the world. Selected projects aim to tackle key challenges in the molecular life sciences, and connections made through the programme will have a profound and lasting impact in their respective fields and broader life science community.”
The new EMBO Global Investigators join a growing network of over 700 current and former EMBO Global Investigators, Installation Grantees and Young Investigators.
Over a period of four years, the new Global Investigators will receive financial support for training and networking activities, providing opportunities to build collaborations with scientists in their region and in Europe. For example, funding can be used to visit other institutions, to attend, speak at and organize scientific meetings, to take part in training courses, to invite members of EMBO’s communities to give lectures, and for childcare.
To be eligible to join the EMBO Global Investigator Network, applicants must be based in either an EMBC Associate Member State (currently India and Singapore) or in a country or territory covered by a co-operation agreement with EMBC (currently Chile and Taiwan). All participants have an excellent scientific track record and have been leading their own research group for no more than six years.
The success rate for 2023 was 24%. This year marks the fifth intake of Global Investigators since the network was launched in 2019.
