In the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments, 13 of the draft proposals submitted by the TU9 Universities successfully passed the proposal phase in the Cluster of Excellence funding line. They were called upon by the Committee of Experts for the Excellence Strategy of the German Research Foundation (DFG) to submit a full proposal. A total of 143 draft proposals were submitted to the DFG, 41 of which may now submit a full proposal in the second round of the Excellence Strategy. The TU9 Universities participated in the competition with a total of 32 new draft proposals.
The TU9 Co-Presidents, Professor Tanja Brühl, President of TU Darmstadt, and Professor Angela Ittel, President of TU Braunschweig, commented on the decision of the panel of experts:
"The fact that a total of 13 projects from the TU9 Universities are now able to submit a full proposal for a Cluster of Excellence is an impressive success. We congratulate all TU9 Colleagues involved in reaching this important milestone. Thank you very much for your outstanding commitment! We would also like to congratulate the scientists of the other successful consortia. This excellent result for TU9 shows: As leading Technical Universities, we are a driving force behind the urgently needed transformation processes. At our universities, scientists work together to develop disruptive ideas and innovative solutions. We are helping to shape the future – the future of tomorrow and beyond. We achieve this on the basis of our specific expertise in the natural sciences and engineering, which we combine in an interdisciplinary way with strong disciplines across the breadth of our universities. We focus on cooperation and networking. This also applies to the trusting collaboration with our non-university partners, who are involved in some of the now successful applications. We are confident that in the next selection stage of the Excellence Strategy our full proposals will also be convincing."
