What motivates people to get involved in politics in their free time? How can they derive pleasure from it? In this new book publication (in German), political scientist Sebastian Polak-Rottmann analyses how people in rural Japan try to change local society through a variety of activities, such as agricultural, political, and social work. Based on extensive fieldwork in southern Japan’s city of Aso (Kumamoto Prefecture), he concludes that mutual enjoyment is a core element of the well-being of politically active people in rural Japan. "Wie politische Partizipation Freude bereiten kann" (How political participation can be enjoyable) is published as volume 67 in the DIJ Monograph series.
Was bewegt Menschen dazu, sich in ihrer Freizeit politisch zu engagieren? Wie können sie daraus Freude schöpfen? In dieser neuen Buchveröffentlichung analysiert der Politikwissenschaftler Sebastian Polak-Rottmann, wie Menschen im ländlichen Japan versuchen, die lokale Gesellschaft durch eine Vielzahl von Aktivitäten wie landwirtschaftliche, politische und soziale Arbeit zu verändern. Auf der Grundlage umfangreicher Feldforschung in der südjapanischen Stadt Aso (Präfektur Kumamoto) kommt er zu dem Schluss, dass die Freude an der Gemeinschaft ein Kernelement des Wohlbefindens der politisch aktiven Menschen im ländlichen Japan ist. "Wie politische Partizipation Freude bereiten kann" ist als Band 67 in der DIJ-Monographienreihe erschienen.
