Lactec is one of Brazil's leading science and technology centers and has been a long-standing and trusted partner of THI since 2013. Now a ground-breaking cooperation between the two institutions has been formalised to establish a national center of excellence for electric mobility and smart grids in Brazil.
This cooperation is an important milestone in the technological and scientific collaboration between Brazil and Germany. Lactec, supported by a three-year funding commitment from the Brazilian government, aims to establish an innovation and knowledge centre that will serve as a hub for research and development in the fields of electromobility and smart grids.
The FutureGrid competence centre will focus on several strategic objectives: Firstly, it will focus on expanding scientific and technological expertise, i.e. strengthening research and development capacities in the areas of electromobility and smart grids with the help of international partners. On the other hand, the focus is on promoting the training of the labour force and supporting training and further education adapted to the needs of R&I. The programme also focuses on technology partnerships and the promotion of innovative start-ups.
The THI is the most important international cooperation partner in this programme. Two initial innovative research initiatives have been defined in discussions at THI with the Centre of Automotive Research CARISSMA, the Institute of New Energy Systems (InES) and the AI research institute AImotion Bavaria.
