New online service eases planning for research stays in Bremen

A new online service called the Welcome Guide allows national and international researchers to quickly obtain personalized information about their research stay in Bremen with just a few clicks. After answering a few questions about their personal situation, researchers receive a filtered digital welcome package, which can be sent via email upon request. This service simplifies the planning of research stays in Bremen and facilitates the start of work at one of the member institutions within the U Bremen Research Alliance.

Researchers facing relocation encounter various challenges. “Where can I find housing in Bremen? Furnished or unfurnished? What about childcare or schooling? What support is available for dual-career couples? The new Welcome Guide provides initial guidance on these and many other practical everyday matters. These are common questions for all newcomers,” explains Pauline von Oehsen, Team Assistant at the Welcome Center. She adds, “For international arrivals, there are usually additional considerations - visas, residence permits, German language courses, and more.” The new service from the U Bremen Research Alliance Welcome Center at the University of Bremen offers a user-friendly and effective tool to help interested parties understand what to consider when relocating to Bremen.

“The new Welcome Guide is an excellent resource for anyone interested in a stay at the science hub Bremen or planning one - whether at the University of Bremen or one of its institutes,” says Jutta Günther, Chairwoman of the U Bremen Research Alliance and President of the University of Bremen. “Of course, this service is not meant to replace our established Welcome Center but to provide an additional, low-threshold offering. It is important to us to support our future colleagues from the very beginning and warmly welcome them to Bremen.”

The Welcome Guide is available at https://www.bremen-research.de/en/welcome-guide
