HZDR impresses with two project proposals in the "InfraProNet" program of the Free State of Saxony

In a multi-stage selection process, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) has acquired millions of euros in funding from the "InfraProNet" program for two research projects. In August 2023, the Saxon Cabinet approved the "InfraProNet" guideline for research funding for the current EU funding period until 2027 and is now supporting the two HZDR projects with financing from the European Regional Development Fund.

The ThaXonian project will receive almost two million euros for research into a new therapeutic approach for neurodegenerative diseases. This involves the reactivation of impaired motor neurons using magnetic fields. The aim is to transfer this new approach into clinical practice.

The TesCO2 project is also successful. It deals with the special state of carbon dioxide, known as supercritical CO2 (sCO2). Thanks to the funding of 870,000 euros, the scientists are able to add a heat storage unit and a high-pressure compression station to their existing large-scale test facility. This gives them the opportunity to research the role of sCO2 in energy storage systems. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) performs – as an independent German research center – research in the fields of energy, health, and matter. We focus on answering the following questions:

    • How can energy and resources be utilized in an efficient, safe, and sustainable way?
    • How can malignant tumors be more precisely visualized, characterized, and more effectively treated?
    • How do matter and materials behave under the influence of strong fields and in smallest dimensions?

To help answer these research questions, HZDR operates large-scale facilities, which are also used by visiting researchers: the Ion Beam Center, the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory and the ELBE Center for High-Power Radiation Sources.

HZDR is a member of the Helmholtz Association and has six sites (Dresden, Freiberg, Görlitz, Grenoble, Leipzig, Schenefeld near Hamburg) with almost 1,500 members of staff, of whom about 670 are scientists, including 300 Ph.D. candidates.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
