As Berlin Design Week unfolds, Berlin International University of Applied Sciences proudly announces its participation in this vibrant celebration of creativity and innovation. This year, our university is set to showcase two remarkable projects, each exemplifying the dynamic spirit of design and its capacity to engage with pressing societal issues.
From April 27 to May 5, our campus will host two thought-provoking exhibitions, open daily from 12:00 to 18:30. But the excitement doesn't stop there. As part of Berlin Design Nights, both exhibitions will extend their opening hours until 23:45 on May 2 and 3, inviting visitors to delve deeper into the realms of creativity and exploration.
Punk & Participation: Redefining Communication Design
One of our featured projects, "Punk & Participation," challenges conventional notions of communication design by delving into its potential to catalyze change. Through a lens of Research through Design, this project ventures into the heart of pressing socio-cultural and politico-economic questions. Our students have embarked on a journey to integrate punk ethos and participatory design elements, crafting interventions that provoke thought and ignite conversation.
From protest toolkits to digital services, the exhibition showcases a diverse array of prototypes aimed at sparking dialogue on topics ranging from reimagining historical narratives to critiquing AI beauty standards. "Punk & Participation" pushes the boundaries of design, inviting viewers to contemplate the role of communication in shaping our collective consciousness.

University of the Future: Transforming Education Spaces
In tandem with "Punk & Participation," our second project, "University of the Future," offers a glimpse into the evolving landscape of higher education. Interdisciplinary in nature, this exhibition brings together students from architecture, interior architecture, and graphic design to envision the universities of tomorrow.
Against the backdrop of a historic textile dyeing factory, students explored the intersections of societal and technological change, redefining institutional identities and physical spaces. Partnering with the Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory, this project imagines a future where universities serve as dynamic hubs for innovation and collaboration.
