The Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture and the Volkswagen Foundation are providing Leuphana University Lüneburg with 18.5 million euros as part of the "Strategically Developing Potential" funding initiative to sharpen its profile and expand its strengths. In the coming years, the university will use the funds for its " Embracing Transformation through research, education and knowledge transfer" project, in particular to intensify its research efforts.
"The funding gives us the opportunity to position Leuphana as a leading institution for forward-looking research and education, while also making a significant contribution to the transformation focus of the zukunft.niedersachsen agenda," said University President Sascha Spoun, pleased with the approval. The success of the application also shows that in the past few years the university has been successful in developing promising and sustainable potential in all faculties, which can now be developed in a targeted manner.
Key elements of the project include developing a competitive research profile with a focus on democracy, sustainability, digital cultures, organization and psychology, and establishing a Leuphana Transformation Lab to promote interdisciplinary and international cooperation. In addition, innovative doctoral training will be developed to attract research talent from around the world.
Strengthening internationalization will continue to be a central task of the Leuphana Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS:TRANS). The transfer of knowledge and regional innovation are to be promoted by expanding innovation communities and continuing education programs.
An international panel of experts reviewed the application and particularly appreciated the interdisciplinary orientation of the transformation plan and the integration of innovative topics such as sustainability and digital cultures. Falko Mohrs, Minister of Science, was also convinced that the measures formulated by Leuphana will help to further strengthen the university as an important innovation driver for sustainable and digital transformation in a regional, national and international context.
A total of 265 million euros in funding was made available for the "Strategically Developing Potential" initiative. The 20 universities in the state received funding ranging from 5 to 22.5 million euros.
