Advancing Zero-Emission Urban Mobility

Anette Mack Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit

The metaCCAZE Consortium recently held a dynamic two-day meeting in Amsterdam, bringing together partners from 12 European countries to accelerate the future of sustainable urban mobility.

The gathering featured hands-on workshops, in-depth discussions on Mission Cities’ use cases, and strategic sessions on knowledge-sharing between Trailblazer and Follower Cities. As metaCCAZE continues developing smart, zero-emission mobility solutions, this meeting provided a crucial platform for collaboration and refinement.

As one of the project partners Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is responsible for the dissemination of the project results within the international specialist audience, but also to the general public, as well as the financial and administrative project coordination.

Advancing Shared, Smart, and Zero-Emission Mobility
The meeting also marked the start of the second year of the project. As 2025 begins, the four Trailblazer Cities—Amsterdam, Limassol, Munich, and Tampere—are finalising and evaluating their co-designed mobility solutions. By year’s end, these cities will begin demonstrating 12 innovative use cases, including:

    • Amsterdam: Optimising waste collection, using the city's unique canal system and replacing large and heavy trucks with a combination of light electric vehicles and autonomous electric waterborne vessels.
    • Limassol: Launching an on-demand transport service to ease family schedules and transform mobility for students’ afternoon activities.
    • Munich: Promoting sustainable last-mile delivery using small electric vehicles from logistics hubs.
    • Tampere: Implementing remote control systems for automated shuttle buses to improve efficiency and safety.

    Cross-fertilisation: learning from contrasts
Meanwhile, the metaCCAZE Follower Cities—Athens, Kraków, Gozo, Milan, Miskolc, and Poissy (Paris Region)—have begun co-creating solutions in shared mobility, automation, micromobility, and mobility hubs. They will continue the cross-fertilisation with Trailblazer Cities, learning from initial metaCCAZE results.

    First Review Meeting
Building on the momentum from the Amsterdam meeting, metaCCAZE partners travelled to Brussels on 18 February 2025, to present their first-year achievements to the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The review meeting provided a platform to showcase progress in developing zero-emission mobility solutions, with the CINEA
Project Officer assessing results and offering strategic recommendations for the next phase.

As metaCCAZE enters its second year, the collaboration between Trailblazer and Follower Cities will intensify, driving forward innovative, real-world solutions for zero-emission urban mobility. With demonstrations set to launch and knowledge-sharing accelerating across Europe, metaCCAZE intends to make a lasting impact on sustainable urban transport and the EU’s climate goals.
