Der Animationsfilmemacher kommt auf Einladung von Prof. Isabel Herguera nach Köln und präsentiert eine Auswahl seiner preisgekrönten Animationsfilme. Neben seiner eigenen künstlerischen Arbeit lehrte Raimund Krumme u.a. von 1997 bis 2001 am California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) und von 2006 bis 2016 an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM).

Die Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM) freut sich den Animationsfilmemacher Raimund Krumme (wieder) in Köln begrüßen zu dürfen. Raimund Krumme war von 2006 bis 2016 Professor für Experimentelle Animation an der KHM. In einer öffentlichen Abendveranstaltung wird er eine Auswahl seiner Animationsfilme zeigen, die u.a. mit dem Prix du Jury des Annecy International Animation Festival, dem Bundesfilmpreis, dem Filmband in Gold (Bonn), dem Silver Dragon (Krakau) und dem Grand Prix für Animation in Montreal ausgezeichnet wurden.
"In his films, Krumme portrays the relationships of power and dependence between his characters, as well as their constant adaptation to the physical conditions of the universe they inhabit. His figures, suspended in the void and in time, often condemned to eternal repetition, seem to be taken from an Anthony Burgess short story or a Kafkaesque fantasy about hell. And, as in a Beckett story, the most ordinary, repeated, and banal gestures become the essence of the whole, unfolding on a white, infinite, and meaningless screen.
At the heart of Krumme's work beats the expectations and existential vertigo of Samuel Beckett: the absurdity of the universe and, as a consequence, the absurdity of our own existence. As Fichte said, the question of whether or not life has meaning has an affirmative answer: the meaning is that which each one attributes to it. Raimund Krumme has been and continues to be a mentor to many of us, as well as an indisputable point of reference for colleagues and audiences around the world“, schreibt Isabel Herguera, Professorin für Animation an der KHM seit 2017.

Zuschauer (engl. „Spectators“), 1989, 5:50 Min. – Ausgehend von den Ausschreitungen in einem Brüsseler Fußballstadion untersucht der Kurzfilm das Verhalten von Menschenmengen. | Based on the riots that took place in a football stadium in Brussels, the short film explores crowd behavior.
Die Kreuzung (engl. Crossroads), 1991, 10 Min. – Ein Mensch kommt an eine Kreuzung und kann sich nicht entscheiden in welche Richtung er gehen soll. | The conflict and confusion experienced by an individual when facing a life-changing decision drag him towards accepting his fate..

Passage, 1994, 6 Min. – Ein Herr und sein Diener liefern sich einen Kampf des Willens, als sie versuchen, einen zugefrorenen See zu überqueren. Im Laufe des Kampfes wird immer deutlicher, wer wirklich die Kontrolle über wen hat. | A master and his servant engage in a battle of wills as they attempt to cross a frozen lake. As they struggle, it becomes increasingly evident who is truly in control of whom.
The Message, 2000, 6 Min. – Die Nachricht "Er ist wieder da!" wird weiter gegeben, verändert sich, wird zur Informationsflut … | A mysterious message is passed from one person to another. "He is back again." It is not clear who he is, or what the message means, but soon it is spreading like wildfire (literally). Before long it has engulfed the entire city.
Der Gefangenenchor (engl. „Choir of the Prisoners“), 2004, 6 Min. – Eine Gruppe von Gefangenen wird von einem Lichtstrahl erfasst, der sie aus ihrer Starrheit erlöst, in Bewegung setzt und in die Freiheit führt. | Based on a scene from Beethoven's opera Fidelio, this work tells the story of a group of prisoners who emerge from the darkness of their cells into the liberating light of day.
Raimund Krumme (*1950, Köln) studierte von 1970 bis 1975 an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Von 1976 bis 1982 war er Dozent an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig. Seit 1980 produziert er Animationsfilme, seit 1994 auch Werbefilme für den amerikanischen und japanischen Markt. Seine Filme wurden auf internationalen Filmfestivals ausgezeichnet und in Ausstellungen gezeigt. Er unterrichtete an internationalen Hochschulen unter anderem am California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) und an der Taipei National School of the Arts (TNUA). Von 2006 bis 2016 lehrte er als Professor für Experimentelle Animation an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln und betreute über hundert Filme und künstlerische Projekte von Studierenden, darunter zahlreiche Animationsfilme, die auf internationalen Festivals gezeigt und ausgezeichnet wurden.
