The independent Hamburg-based Jung Foundation for Science and Research is once again inviting outstanding young doctors and researchers to apply for the 2026 Jung Career Advancement Award, which is endowed with 210,000 euros. Applications are open until 31 August 2025.
The Jung Career Advancement Award is aimed at doctors who have already completed at least two years of scientific research - ideally at a research institute abroad - and now want to deepen their research activities at a German clinic. At the same time, they should be aiming for clinical specialist training. The funding awarded by the Hamburg Jung Foundation provides three years of support for the combined pursuit of research and clinical training.
The application process is straightforward and can be completed online in English. A CV, annotated list of publications and a project outline are required. All documents can be uploaded directly via the foundation's website:

The three most compelling applications will be invited to a personal selection interview on 5th November 2025 in Frankfurt. Those who convince the expert jury will receive the prize at the award ceremony in May 2026.
Long-term commitment to medical progress
Awarded annually since 2006 by the Jung Foundation for Science and Research, the Jung Career Advancement Award for Medical Research is specifically committed to promoting young scientists. At the same time, it helps to further strengthen Germany as a centre of research.
The independent foundation's funding portfolio includes two other prestigious prizes: the Jung Prize for Medicine, endowed with 300,000 euros, and the Jung Gold Medal for Medicine, which is awarded for an outstanding lifetime achievement in medical research. With a total of 540,000 euros, these three awards are among the most highly endowed of their kind in Europe.
In addition, the foundation is involved with five fellowships in human medicine each year, a fellowship for the history of medicine at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf and three German scholarships for medical students in cooperation with the University of Hamburg. In total, the Jung Foundation invests up to 650,000 euros per year in the promotion of medical research and education.
