IBC 2025: Fraunhofer IDMT showcases enhanced Content Verification Toolbox for detecting manipulated and synthetic media

The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT will present its updated Content Verification Toolbox at International Broadcasting Convention IBC 2025, taking place from September 12 to 15 in Amsterdam. The Content Verification Toolbox is a suite of tools for detecting manipulation, synthesis, and decontextualization in audio and audio-visual material, while also supporting active content authentication. It offers explainable and continuously evolving methods, based on signal analysis and machine learning, and can be integrated into content verification workflows.

+++ Supporting content verification with automatic analysis tools +++

The Content Verification Toolbox supports media companies, newsrooms, and
platform operators in detecting various types of disinformation. For example, news production can detect whether an audio statement has been artificially generated, manipulated or decontextualized before publication, and fact-checking organizations can track how content was propagated.

At this year’s IBC, Fraunhofer IDMT will showcase the latest updates to its Content Verification Toolbox, featuring two major enhancements:

    - Improved speech synthesis detection and decontextualization detection tools, developed in current research projects such as vera.ai – a project aiming to provide professional, trustworthy AI solutions against advanced disinformation techniques, developed in collaboration with media professionals and researchers.

    - Updated tools for C2PA-compliant authentication. C2PA is an open industry standard for content provenance and authenticity. Fraunhofer IDMT cooperates with nachtblau GmbH in the GEISST project to robustly mark synthetic speech in media workflows. In addition, IDMT presents methods to address “analog gaps” in content tracking when hashing-based provenance checking fails.

Moreover, we will outline how Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) can be used to address data protection and confidentiality issues in the applications mentioned above. These approaches can help ensure that sensitive user or source information remains protected when advanced analysis methods are applied.

Visit Fraunhofer IDMT at booth B80 in Hall 8 to experience new features of the Content Verification Toolbox and discuss how your specific challenges can be addressed!

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
