Strong response for the protection of unmanned systems
First phase of the SPECTRA Challenge successfully completed
At the end of the first phase of the SPECTRA Challenge competition, the Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur), the Cyber Innovation Hub of the German Armed Forces (CIHBw) and the Innovation Laboratory System Soldier (InnoLabSysSdt) have drawn a positive conclusion: 46 qualified submissions, including universities, companies and individuals. Groups with participants from a total of 17 countries underscore the international significance of the innovation program.
With 46 qualified entries from academia, industry and the start-up scene, the first phase of the SPECTRA Challenge has clearly achieved its target. Concepts were submitted by individuals, research groups, spin-offs and established companies. The international composition of many groups is striking: in addition to Germany, experts from Europe, Central and North America are involved. This breadth shows that protecting unmanned systems from electronic attacks has long been a globally recognised field of action.
In terms of content, the field is divided into 30 entries in the practical track and 16 entries in the visionary moonshot track. Both strands of development form the basis for realising rapidly deployable prototypes while enabling long-term technological leaps.
The SPECTRA Challenge was launched to develop innovative solutions against electronic threats such as jamming, spoofing or signal takeover. In view of the recent disturbances in the airspace over the Baltic States and Scandinavia, where the number of reported GPS interferences has increased significantly, the urgency of new protection mechanisms is particularly evident. The aim of the challenge is to finance concepts and technologies that make unmanned systems more resilient and ensure their operational capability even under complex threat situations.
As the competition progresses, the most promising groups will present their ideas to a jury of experts at the Pitch Days on 7 and 8 October at the former air base in Erding. Invitations will then be issued to the Practice Week from 1 to 5 December, during which the selected concepts will be tested and evaluated under realistic conditions. This will not only test the quality of the technical approaches, but also their suitability for later transfer to research, the armed forces or procurement.
Submissions were made via the KOINNOvationsplatz of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. With its range of challenges and a marketplace for innovations, the KOINNOvationsplatz offers public contractors and companies alike the opportunity to engage in exchange and learn from each other – without obligation, transparently and in compliance with the law.

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
