In the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking (THE WUR), the University of Bayreuth is placed in the global group 301–350, once again demonstrating its strong performance. Particularly noteworthy is its research environment, where it ranks 248th out of 2,191 evaluated universities worldwide.
“Considering that more and more universities meet the basic requirements for inclusion in the THE ranking each year — last year there were 2,092, and this year nearly a hundred more — it is all the more gratifying to be firmly established in the 301–350 group,” summarizes Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible, President of the University of Bayreuth.
Nationally, the University of Bayreuth ranks 30th out of 55 universities in the current WUR, improving by one position compared to the previous year.
The WUR also highlights the high quality of Bayreuth’s researchers, their productivity, and their strong connections to industry and society:
• Research Productivity: 98.2 out of 100 points
• Research Income: 98.8 out of 100 points
Additional improvements were seen in the following areas:
• Teaching: Rank 341 (previous year: 343)
• Research Quality: Rank 642 (previous year: 682)
• Industry Collaboration: Rank 271 (previous year: 295)
• International Outlook: Rank 465 (previous year: 471)
“These results show that our triad of research, teaching, and knowledge transfer is working excellently — and with international impact,” says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. “In fact, we are among the top 16 percent in the WUR. Especially in the year of our 50th anniversary, this is a wonderful confirmation of our strategy to combine top-level research, excellent study conditions, and active societal engagement on campus.”
The THE World University Ranking is published annually by Times Higher Education (THE), a British academic magazine. It is based on a wide range of criteria, including researchers’ scientific publications and the amount of third-party funding obtained through collaborations with industry. The interdisciplinary ranking published today is based on data from the year 2023.
