Working Together for a Stronger European Materials Community: The German Society for Materials Science (DGM) and the French Society for Metallurgy and Materials (SF2M) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that lays the foundation for long-term cooperation between the two scientific and technical societies. The aim of the agreement is to intensify professional and cultural exchange between Germany and France in the field of materials science and engineering and to promote joint activities for the benefit of the members of both organizations.
The cooperation focuses on establishing joint formats and exchanging knowledge across national borders. Among other things, joint webinars on current topics in materials science, exchanges between relevant expert committees and working groups, mutual support at important events, and the development of benefits for members, such as discounted participation fees or the option of dual membership, are planned. Additional areas of cooperation can be added flexibly in the future.
“With this agreement, we are strengthening European networking in materials science and creating new impetus for joint projects and knowledge transfer,” says DGM Managing Director Dr. Stefan Klein. “Especially in the context of global challenges, exchange between leading national professional societies is crucial for the joint advancement of research, innovation, and education.”
SF2M President Jean-Luc Béchade also emphasizes the importance of the cooperation: “The collaboration between SF2M and DGM opens up new perspectives for our members: from scientific synergies to closer personal contacts between researchers in both countries.”
The memorandum creates a flexible basis for future joint initiatives and partnerships. Both societies thus reaffirm their shared commitment to actively shaping progress in European materials science and offering their members sustainable added value.
