The U Bremen Research Alliance has elevated the interdisciplinary training program for research data management and data science "Data Train" to the next level. From 2026, the program will be offered as "Data Train Advanced" in cooperation with the University of Bremen's Academy of Continuing Education and will provide a new, higher qualification certificate: the Certificate of Advanced Studies. This certificate is a significant milestone in the career of researchers and will be particularly valuable in the context of the shortage of professionals with data competencies.
"After five successful runs, we are elevating the Data Train program to the next level," explains Prof. Dr. Iris Pigeot, Director of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Bremen, and Program Director for "Data Train Advanced." "With this certificate, participants can demonstrate their data competencies and prepare themselves for the demands of data-intensive research. We are proud to be able to offer this continuing education program and hope that it will attract many early career researchers."
"The Certificate of Advanced Studies is a significant milestone for our researchers," says Dr. Lina Schaare, Coordinator of Data Train. "We are happy that participants can now receive an official Certificate of Advanced Studies, which demonstrates their skills in handling data and qualifies them for their individual career development both within and outside the scientific community."
The ability to handle data competently and extract valuable insights from it is crucial for the future of companies, research institutions, and society as a whole. The program "Data Train Advanced" is therefore an important step in building sustainable data competency structures for the Bremen region and beyond. With the Certificate of Advanced Studies, the program "Data Train Advanced" offers a structured training of professionals with data competencies. It is intended to qualify researchers who must prepare themselves for the growing demands in academia and the challenges of a data-driven future.
Registration for the certificate courses in "Data Train Advanced" opens in December 2025 via the University of Bremen's Academy for Continuing Education. The content and implementation of the program remain with the U Bremen Research Alliance, which contributes with its interdisciplinary expertise in research and data competencies and cooperates closely with the consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).
Those who do not want to commit to a certificate but still want to develop their data competencies can continue to participate in the regular training program "Data Train" which remains a free offer.
Data Train has been part of the interdisciplinary data competency center for the Bremen region, DataNord, since November 2023. DataNord is coordinated by the U Bremen Research Alliance and the University of Bremen, funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space, and financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
