ITA – Institut für Textiltechnik der RWTH Aachen University

The Indian Consul General, Dr Shuchita Kishore, visited the Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University on 15 December to inspect the joint project between the ITA, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and industrial partners from India and Germany and to tour the ITA.
The manufacture of composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) for hydrogen mobility is a key technology for hydrogen storage, lightweight construction and sustainable mobility, and for successful scientific and industrial cooperation between India and Germany.

During the tour of the institute, Professor Dr Thomas Gries and Dr Shantanu Bhat focused on innovative textile machines and digital and sustainable manufacturing processes. Dr Kishore showed particular interest in the following topics:
    • Sustainable and bio-based fibre and textile materials
    • Nonwovens, recycling technologies and circular economy
    • Biopolymers and resource-efficient textile processes
    • Digitalisation, Industry 4.0 and simulation-based textile production
    • Textile applications for mobility, construction, energy & environment and health.
“With her visit, Consul General Dr Kishore is strengthening the international visibility of RWTH Aachen University and the ITA in India,” says ITA Director Professor Dr Thomas Gries. "This will enable us to establish long-term research, industry and training partnerships. The transfer of research results into industrial applications is extremely important.”
Dr Shantanu Bhat emphasises: “Together, we can advance the expansion of existing collaborations with Indian IITs and research institutions and intensify joint research projects, industrial collaborations and academic exchanges between scientists and students.”
