The H2GLASS consortium announces the arrival of its 2.5 MWe portable PEM electrolyser, marking a significant step forward in demonstrating hydrogen-based solutions for the glass industry. This travelling electrolyser will move across Europe to enable long term testing of hydrogen combustion in industrial glass melting processes, supporting the sector’s transition toward climate neutral production.
The first deployment begins in l’Ardoise, France, at Owens Corning, where testing started in March. Building on Owens Corning’s successful 2025 hydrogen furnace pilot, the H2GLASS electrolyser will produce green hydrogen directly on-site, enabling realistic testing conditions and validating hydrogen integration in high temperature industrial environments.

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum drives communication, dissemination & exploitation across Europe
As leader of the Communication, Dissemination & Exploitation (CDE) work in H2GLASS, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum plays a central role in ensuring the impact of this milestone is understood across industry, policy, and research communities.
SEZ is responsible for:
• Communicating progress of the electrolyser’s journey across France, Italy, and Slovenia
• Ensuring visibility of industrial demonstrators and technical achievements
• Facilitating knowledge transfer between research partners, industrial users, and the broader hydrogen ecosystem
• Supporting exploitation pathways, helping industry adopt and scale hydrogen combustion technologies
• Engaging stakeholders, including glass manufacturers, technology providers, policy actors, and EU networks
This coordinated effort ensures that the insights and data gathered at each deployment are effectively shared and leveraged to accelerate Europe’s move toward sustainable, hydrogen enabled manufacturing.
A European Journey Toward Decarbonisation
The mobile electrolyser will be deployed at four industrial partner sites across three countries, collecting essential data on performance, safety, operability, and scalability. These real world demonstrations are key to reducing emissions in one of Europe’s most energy intensive sectors.
