Starting in the 2026/2027 winter semester, students at Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) will be able to enroll in the new master’s program, “International Master of Research and Innovation (M.Sc.).” The program is housed in the School of Business and the Faculty of Computer Science and combines topics in business psychology and business informatics—international, interdisciplinary, research-oriented, and project-based. Applications are accepted until June 15.
The new master program focuses on students independently addressing complex research questions or application-oriented problems within international teams or projects. Students have the opportunity to combine perspectives from business psychology and business informatics in an interdisciplinary manner: they examine issues from technical, organizational, and human perspectives, which opens up unique opportunities for insight and innovative solutions.
Prof. Dr. Simone Kubowitsch, a professor at the School of Business at THA, leads the program together with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kratsch from the Faculty of Computer Science. She explains: “Students can specialize either in business psychology, business informatics, or the intersection of the two fields—human-computer interaction—thus bringing both disciplines together. This allows them to develop a unique, individualized academic profile.”
The program is taught primarily in English and can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis. To ensure a high degree of flexibility in terms of location and time for students, courses are offered on-campus at THA, digitally, or in a blended-learning format. Students may begin their studies in either the winter or summer semester.
Program Content: Interdisciplinary, Research-Oriented, and Project-Based
The curriculum provides for a structured learning process: Students take subject-specific specializations and acquire advanced methodological skills; increasingly, they conduct independent research and innovation projects.
At the beginning of the program, students build on the knowledge gained from their bachelor’s degree (Business Psychology or Business Informatics). They then develop an interdisciplinary perspective on the design and evaluation of technologies in human and organizational contexts. Modules on the methods and principles of scientific practice and on advanced data analysis equip students to conduct independent research and develop data-driven solutions. Additional modules focus on developing leadership and communication skills, collaboration in international and intercultural contexts, the development of new ideas and business models, and the active shaping of innovation processes.
A distinctive feature of the program is the continuous work on a project—from the first semester through the master’s thesis. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kratsch says: “Throughout their studies, students work on their own research or innovation project, either individually or in small teams. We actively encourage the publication of project results and research-oriented master’s theses in renowned journals and at conferences. This allows students to deepen their expertise and build a coherent academic career path as well as a well-founded professional profile.”
Another characteristic of the program is its strong international focus. The goal is to prepare students as well as possible for a global academic career and professional contexts. This is made possible through courses taught in English, project work with international partners, internships or research stays abroad, as well as semesters abroad.
Career prospects after graduation
With its research-oriented focus, the program prepares students for an academic career, for shaping development and innovation processes, or for consulting and evaluation tasks at universities, in organizations, and in companies.
Admission Requirements and Application
Applicants must hold a completed bachelor’s degree in Business Psychology or Business Informatics from a domestic or foreign university with a minimum of 210 ECTS credits in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System. The equivalence of other degrees is assessed by the admissions committee as part of the admissions process.
In addition, there is an aptitude assessment procedure to determine program-specific suitability. This process takes into account the applicant’s final grade, a resume detailing project and/or research experience, a letter of motivation, and a project or research proposal. Admission is based on the total score achieved in the aptitude assessment procedure.
Prospective students interested in starting their studies in the winter semester of 2026/2027 may apply by June 15, 2026.
