Tübingen/Reutlingen, 7 October 2004. As of October 1, the Board of Directors of Retina Implant AG, Tübingen, has appointed Dr. Walter-G. Wrobel new President and CEO of the company.

Dr. Wrobel has comprehensive, long standing experience in the medical technology industry. In his position as head of the ophthalmology division of Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH, Dr. Wrobel contributed substantially to the company's success and profit through the introduction of innovative products. Prior to his new position with Retina Implant AG, Dr. Wrobel acted as CTO of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG. The Chairman of Retina Implant AG's Board of Directors, Prof. Zrenner, commented: "We are happy to have gained Dr. Wrobel for our team, an experienced manager and designated expert in the ophthalmology market who has an unparalleled sense of innovation."

Retina Implant AG enjoys a leading technological position in the development of an active subretinal implant with which the company hopes to restore vision in blind people suffering from certain forms of retinal degeneration. The market potential is estimated to reach approximately 1 billion euros annually over the next ten years. Dr. Wrobel: "I cannot envision a more wonderful challenge than restoring vision to the blind and simultaneously establishing a new company with my colleague Mr. Reinhard Rubow."

Reinhard Rubow has held leading positions in the areas of finance and controlling in a number of companies including Kimberly-Clark, Porsche, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. In his position as CFO of Retina Implant, he has succeeded in gaining the trust of investors and corporate executives with successful M&A and restructuring measures. In his previous position as CFO of the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tübingen, Mr. Rubow already actively contributed to the foundation and development of Retina Implant AG. In future, Reinhard Rubow will focus exclusively on his position as CFO of the company. Reinhard Rubow: "Now, Retina Implant AG has become a jewel for investors. The ongoing negotiations are providing a very encouraging feedback."

    Retina Implant AG

Retina Implant AG is worldwide foremost in the development of an active, subretinal implant which is intended to restore vision in people suffering from retinitis pigmentosa or age-related macula degeneration. The company was founded in July 2003 as spin-off company of the BMBF-funded SUBRET Consortium in which renowned institutes (NMI Reutlingen, IMS Stuttgart, IPD Stuttgart) cooperated with the University Eye Hospitals of Tübingen and Regensburg on the basic principles of a subretinal implant, developing a clinical prototype.

Retina Implant AG intends to become the first company to introduce a retinal chip to market in 2006, which is to restore a suitable degree of vision.
