YUFE University Alliance Secures Two-Year Extension of EU Support

Universität Bremen

Ten European universities, including the University of Bremen, are part of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) alliance. The consortium has secured additional funding from the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, ensuring continued support for the next two years.

This bridge funding, which will run through 2028, builds on two prior phases (2019–2022 and 2022–2026) and will provide critical stability as YUFE prepares for the next EU funding cycle. The extension allows the alliance to further develop, strengthen, and sustain its institutional structures and innovative projects, including student exchanges, and professional development initiatives.

YUFE unites ten dynamic, research-focused universities across Europe with a shared mission: to create an open and inclusive European university. The alliance fosters new opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff through cross-border mobility, joint teaching and learning, and innovative partnerships. In addition to the University of Bremen, the YUFE network includes: Maastricht University (Netherlands), Nicolaus Copernicus University Toruń (Poland), University Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), University of Antwerp (Belgium), University of Cyprus, University of Eastern Finland, University of Essex (UK), University of Rijeka (Croatia), and University Sorbonne Nouvelle (France) YUFE. The University of Bremen has been a founding member of YUFE since its launch. Since 2024, President Professor Jutta Günther has served as Vice President of the alliance.

    Building on Proven Success

The new funding phase, branded YUFEPULSE, focuses on scaling up successful initiatives from earlier stages. These include joint educational programs, interdisciplinary research collaborations, and deepened engagement with local communities, cities, and industry partners.

Mandy Boehnke, Vice President for International Affairs at the University of Bremen, comments: “We’re happy about this extended funding. It gives us the opportunity to deepen our European partnerships and build on the momentum we’ve created. YUFE embodies openness, mutual learning, and collaboration across borders.”
