In Anwesenheit von Außenminister Joschka Fischer wurde in Berlin der neue Geschäftsführende stellv. Präsident der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), Botschafter a.D. Fritjof von Nordenskjöld, am 27.10.2004 in sein Amt eingeführt.
Die DGAP habe ein wichtiges Jahr vor sich, so Nordenskjöld, denn sie feiert 2005 ihren 50. Geburtstag. "Doch es geht nicht nur um die Vorbereitung des Jubiläums, sondern vor allem um die Neupositionierung der DGAP als ein wichtiges nationales Netzwerk für deutsche Außenpolitik und internationale Beziehungen."
Nordenskjöld will gemeinsam mit dem Präsidenten der DGAP, Alfred Freiherr von Oppenheim, die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Politik, Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Medien ausweiten, um dem Thema Außenpolitik in Deutschland ein größeres Gewicht zu verleihen.
