Die Relevanz des Impfschutzes rückt erst dann in das öffentliche Interesse, wenn neue oder alte Epidemien mit ihren verheerenden Folgen weltweit menschlichen und wirtschaftlichen Schaden anrichten.
Auf der Tagung am 30. November 2004 im DECHEMA-Haus, Theodor-Heuss-Allee 25, in Frankfurt am Main, sprechen Fachleuten aus Forschung und Industrie über Impfstrategien, aktuelle Trends sowie wirtschaftliche Risiken der Impfstoffentwicklung.
Zukünftige Impfstoffe, beispielweise gegen Krebs, und das Management der SARS-Epidemie sind Bestandteil des Tagungsprogramms. Außerdem präsentieren Wissenschaftler medizinisch-gesellschaftliche Aspekte: Recht auf Impfung, Nutzen und Risiken des Impfens sowie Impfaufklärung als Verbraucherschutz. Eine abschließende Podiumsrunde diskutiert das Potential von Impfungen als preiswerte Prävention anstelle teurer Folgetherapien.
