Dr. Andreas König, seit 1997 am Deutschen Primatenzentrum in der Abteilung Verhaltensforschung & Ökologie, wird im September 1999 eine Stelle als Assistant Professor ("tenure-track") am Department of Anthropology der State University of New York in Stony Brook, USA, antreten. Dr. König studierte in Aachen, Köln und Göttingen Mathematik und Biologie und spezialisierte sich innerhalb des Faches Anthropologie auf Primatologie und Verhaltensökologie. Nach seiner Promotion 1992 über Krallenaffen am Institut für Anthropologie der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen wurde er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Arbeitsgruppe Biokommunikation des Deutschen Primatenzentrums. Von 1993 bis 1995 ermöglichte ein Feodor-Lynen-Stipendium der Alexander-von-Humboldt Stiftung einen Forschungsaufenthalt am Natural History Museum in Kathmandu, Nepal, um das Verhalten und die Ökologie freilebender Hanuman Languren zu untersuchen. Zwei Jahre nach der Rückkehr ans Institut für Anthropologie in Göttingen wechselte er an das Deutsche Primatenzentrum. Schwerpunkte seiner derzeitigen Forschung sind die evolutionäre Ökologie des Gruppenleben und der Sozialbeziehungen, Nahrungsökologie, Saisonalität der Fortpflanzung sowie Fortpflanzungsstrategien.
