Neues Max-Planck-Partnerinstitut in Shanghai konzentriert sich auf die Erforschung biologischer Netzwerke
Ein "Partner Institute for Computational and Theoretical Biology" haben die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft und die Chinesische Akademie der Wissenschaften jetzt in Shanghai offiziell gegründet. MPG-Gründungsdirektor des neuen Instituts ist der Mathematiker Prof. Andreas Dress, bisher Universität Bielefeld und Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik in den Naturwissenschaften. Chinesischer Kodirektor ist der Populationsgenetiker Prof. Li Jin, der vom College of Medicine der University of Cincinnati, USA, kommt und zugleich Professor an der Fudan University in Shanghai ist. Während die von Prof. Dress geleitete Abteilung für Kombinatorische Geometrie sich speziell mit dem vernetzten Zusammenwirken von Proteinen und Stoffwechselprodukten in gesunden und kranken Zellen beschäftigen wird, sollen in der Abteilung für Genetik und Bioinformatik von Prof. Li Jin die molekulare Evolution menschlicher Populationen untersucht sowie genetische Grundlagen komplexer menschlicher Krankheiten identifiziert werden. Das Partnerinstitut wird eng mit experimentellen und biomathematischen Forschungsinstituten in China, Deutschland sowie in anderen Ländern zusammenarbeiten. Die Gründungszeremonie fand am 25. Mai 2005 in Shanghai statt.
