Professor Dr. Theophil Eicher, Dekan der Mathematisch- Naturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität des Saarlandes, wird Ehrendoktor der Fakultät für Chemie der Universität in Montevideo (Uruguay).
Die Auszeichnung erfolgt in Würdigung des von ihm durchgeführten Projekts zur Neustrukturierung und Modernisierung der Lehrveranstaltungen (Vorlesungen und Praktika) und der Forschungsaktivitäten im Bereich Organische Chemie von 1988 - 1995 sowie der bis heute andauernden wissenschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit mit der Catedra Quimica Organica de la Universidad de la Republica Montevideo und ihren Dozenten.
