Universität Mannheim als erste Hochschule im deutschsprachigen Raum in Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative aufgenommen

Die Universität Mannheim ist als erste Hochschule im deutschsprachigen Raum in die Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative der European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) aufgenommen worden. Die EFMD ist ein internationales Netzwerk führender Unternehmen und Management-Schulen. Mit der 2004 ins Leben gerufenen Globally Responsible Leadership Initivative hat die EFMD zum Ziel, die Ausbildung von verantwortungsbewussten Führungskräften zu fördern.
Die Universität Mannheim ist nach mehreren unabhängigen Umfragen unter Personalchefs die führende deutsche Hochschule im Bereich der Betriebswirtschaftslehre. "Uns ist wichtig, dass zukünftige Manager nicht nur lernen, kurzfristig ihre Gewinne zu maximieren", sagt Professor Dr. Hans-Wolfgang Arndt, Rektor der Universität Mannheim. "Unternehmen tragen eine Verantwortung, die weit über die Werksgrenzen und den Kundenkreis hinaus reicht, und die nicht nur aus ethischen Gründen wahrgenommen werden sollte - sondern vor allem als Grundlage für nachhaltigen Unternehmenserfolg."
Aufgenommen wurde die Universität Mannheim in das Programm mit einer Reihe von Projekten, die das gesellschaftliche Engagement ihrer Studierenden fördern. So fand kürzlich ein Workshop in Kooperation mit der BASF AG statt, in dem die Teilnehmer Aspekte der Wirtschaftsethik an konkreten Praxisbeispielen diskutieren konnten. Im Rahmen von Service Learning-Projekten verknüpfen Mannheimer Wissenschaftler Lehrveranstaltungen mit praktischen Anwendungen im sozialen Bereich. Linguisten haben beispielsweise ein Sprachtraining entwickelt, das fünfzig Studierende mit großem Erfolg in Kindergärten einsetzen, um die Bildungschancen von Migrantenkindern zu erhöhen. Oder, als weiteres Beispiel: Im kommenden Jahr feiert die Universität Mannheim ihr 100jähriges Bestehen mit Tagungen, Workshops, Podiumsdiskussionen und Vorträgen zum Thema "Wirtschaftsethik und Wirtschaftswirklichkeit".
Im Rahmen der Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative will die Universität Mannheim ihr Engagement für die Ausbildung verantwortungsbewusster Führungskräfte intensivieren. Sie entwickelt hierzu ein studienbegleitendes Programm für ausgewählte Studierende in Kooperation mit international agierenden Großunternehmen.

20 new business schools and companies join the worldwide Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative
The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative is now expanding with 20 selected organisations from around the world.
Background
The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative was launched last year by a group of senior representatives from 21 companies, business schools and centres for leadership learning from five continents. The group was formed by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) with the support of the United Nations Global Compact.
The Initiative is focused on hands-on actions - in learning institutions and companies - to support the development of a next generation of globally responsible leaders. It also contributes to the creation of a body of knowledge on globally responsible leadership and it actively encourages and supports its practice in companies worldwide. Specific action targets include:
o Making global responsibility a foundational requirement within the accreditation systems for business schools.
o Piloting new best practice approaches to learning within leading business schools and companies so that business leaders not only know what is expected of them, but also practice it.
o Developing self assessment tools for individual and corporate performance, measured against clear and explicit concepts of global responsibility.
o Advocacy to enable globally responsible leaders to flourish and become role models of business behaviour.
