The cost of materials is of substantial importance for the competitiveness of German industry. In any manufacturing industry, material costs estimated to be approximately 42 % represent the greatest cost component, exceeding personnel costs by more than twice (19 %).
The German Materials Efficiency Prize will be awarded by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology for the fifth time this year. Medium-size enterprises, which have increased their materials efficiency by innovative solutions in development, design, production and organization, can apply for the award up to 1 September 2008.
10,000 euro will be granted to each of the five best concepts. The award ceremony will take place within a conference on the improvement of materials and energy efficiency of medium-size enterprises in Berlin on 16 October 2008.
The BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing has been commissioned to manage this competition. Contact partner is Dr. Franz-Georg Simon, member in the advisory panel of the German Materials Efficiency Agency (Deutsche Materialeffizienzagentur) and Head of BAM Division IV.3 Waste Treatment and Remedial Engineering.
