Am 1. September 2008 nimmt Prof. Dr. Ursula Gather, Rektorin der Technischen Universität Dortmund, ihre Arbeit auf. Sie führt die Universität gemeinsam mit drei Prorektoren - Prof. Dr. Walter Grün-zweig wird für Studium, Prof. Dr. Metin Tolan für Forschung und Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Schwiegelshohn für Finanzen zuständig sein. Kanzler Dr. Roland Kischkel leitet weiter die Verwaltung.
Ziel der neuen Hochschulspitze ist es, die Stärken der TU Dortmund in den Natur- und Ingenieurwissenschaften sowie den Kultur- und Bildungswissenschaften in kooperativer Forschung zusammenzubringen. Das neue Team löst die Vorgänger Prof. Eberhard Becker als Rektor und die Prorektoren Prof. Thomas Ruster, Prof. Claus Weihs, Prof. Wolfram Richter und Prof. Günther Rager ab.
