Auf der Mitgliederversammlung des Sonderforschungsbereichs "Umwelt und Region" der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft wurde am 22. November 2000 Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Paul Müller (Biogeographie, Universität Trier) zum neuem Sprecher gewählt.
Zum Stellvertretenden Sprecher wurde Prof. Dr. Heiner Monheim gewählt, der bisher die Sprecherfunktion inne hatte.
