Das renommierte Internationale Journal of Optomechatronics (IJO, Taylor & Francis, USA) hat den begehrten Koh Young Best Paper Award 2007, mit dem der beste wissenschaftliche Aufsatz der gesamten Jahresausgabe des Journals ausgezeichnet wird, an die Oldenburger Mikrorobotik-Gruppe verliehen (Oldenburger Informatik-Institut OFFIS sowie Department für Informatik der Universität Oldenburg).
Der Aufsatz "3D Vision Feedback for Nanohandling Monitoring in a Scanning Electron Microscope", verfasst von Dr. Marco Jähnisch und Prof. Dr. Sergej Fatikow, wurde im Rahmen eines Forschungsprojekts im Informatik-Institut OFFIS erarbeitet. Der Koh Young Award wird im November während des International Symposium on Optomechatronic Technologies in San Diego (USA) verliehen.
Der Forschungsschwerpunkt der von Fatikow geleiteten Arbeitsgruppe liegt in der automatisierten, auf Mikrorobotern basierten Handhabung und Charakterisierung nanoskaliger Objekte. Die wichtigsten Einsatzfelder sind die Mikrosystemtechnik und die Nanotechnologie, mit Anwendungen in der Mikro- und Nanoelektronik, Biotechnologie, Medizintechnik oder Materialforschung. Die Roboter operieren in der Regel in der Vakuumkammer eines Rasterelektronenmikroskops, das für die Roboterregelung notwendige visuelle Daten aus der Nanowelt liefert. Diese Sensorrückkopplung ist auf der Nanoskala mit einigen grundsätzlichen Problemen verbunden. Die vom IJO ausgezeichnete Arbeit hat eine mögliche Lösung dieser Probleme vorgestellt.
