Die Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft e.V. vereint unter ihrem Dach insgesamt 20 wissenschaftliche Arbeitsgemeinschaften. Daraus sind acht grundlagenorientierte Arbeitsgemeinschaften in der AEK (Abteilung Experimentelle Krebsforschung) zusammengefasst. Die AEK repräsentiert den wesentlichen Teil der in der experimentellen Krebsforschung in Deutschland tätigen Wissenschaftler.
