Das Buch präsentiert ausgewählte Beiträge der letzten MEDIACITY Konferenz sowie
die Forschungsergebnisse des Projektes.
"MEDIACITY - Situations, Practices and Encounters" widmet sich der Frage, wie
soziale Beziehungen und Räume der Stadt durch den Gebrauch und die Präsenz
neuer Medien geschaffen, erfahren und genutzt werden. Neue Medien eröffnen
verschiedenartige Praktiken und Handlungsweisen im öffentlichen Raum. Sie
verbinden Menschen und Räume in unterschiedlichster Form und schaffen diverse
Ströme von Information, Kommunikation und Wissen. Beiträge aus den
verschiedensten Wissenschaftsbereichen wie Architektur, Urbanistik, Soziologie,
und Medienwissenschaften beleuchten kritisch die allgegenwärtige Medialisierung
unserer Alltagswelt und die zahlreichen Wechselwirkungen neuer Medien mit dem
urbanen Raum.
Das an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar beheimatete Forschungsprojekt MEDIACITY
widmet sich einem verstärkten internationalen Wissenstransfer bezüglich des
wechselseitigen Einflusses von Medien, Architektur und Stadtforschung. Ziel des
Projektes ist die langfristige Etablierung dieser interdisziplinären
Forschungsfelder in der Ausbildungs- und Forschungslandschaft Europas.

"MEDIACITY - Situations, Practices and Encounters" investigates how the social
settings and spaces of the city are created, experienced and practiced through
the use and presence of new media. It takes the position that new media enables
different settings, practices and behaviours to occur in urban space.
Contributions from academics, practitioners and activists from disciplines such
as Media Studies, Architecture, Urban Studies, Cultural and Urban Geography and
Sociology present a critical reflection on the processes, methods and impacts
of technologies in urban space.
The MEDIACITY Project seeks to facilitate the transfer of outstanding
international knowledge at the Bauhaus-University Weimar in order to intensify
research within the interdisciplinary fields of Media Studies, Architecture and
Urban Sociology. It aims to research solutions for urban development in a
knowledge based society.
