Bei den Informatiktagen in Bonn (29. März 2009) wurde Informatikstudent Dirk Holz der Best Paper Award verliehen.
Die Gesellschaft für Informatik würdigte mit dem Preis seinen Beitrag "Effiziente 2D-Navigation mit mobilen Service Robotern". Ein Thema, dass Holz derzeit in der seiner Master-Arbeit im Fach Autonome Systeme bearbeitet.
Es geht dabei um die Exploration durch autonome Roboter: Dabei muss ein Roboter seine Bewegungen so planen, dass er mit seinen Sensoren alle Objekte und Strukturen in der Umgebung wahrnehmen und daraus ein internes Umgebungsmodell konstruieren kann. Die resultierenden Umgebungsmodelle sind notwendig etwa für die Planung von Pfaden, um bestimmten Stellen in der Umgebung zu erreichen.
