Gefäßverkalkung und Plaque-Entstehung sind unabhängig vom Fettstoffwechsel
Sie sind erst seit wenigen Jahren bekannt: so genannte Micro-RNAs (miRNA) - kurze RNA-Fragmente, die fest im Erbgut integriert sind und die Fertigstellung von Proteinen regulieren. Sie haben damit einen wesentlichen Einfluss auf die Bildung und die Stabilität von Proteinen in der Zelle. Forschern vom Max-Planck-Institut für Herz- und Lungenforschung in Bad Nauheim ist es nun erstmals gelungen, die Schlüsselfunktion zweier dieser miRNAs bei Arteriosklerose aufzuklären.
