"Karriere" profiles GISMA alumnus

Susanne Klingebiel-Scherf Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
GISMA Business School

Dr. Sebastian Vieregg (30), graduate of the 2005 full-time MBA program at the GISMA Business School, was recently chosen by the business magazine Karriere, with 24 other young managers, as Karriere's top 25 high-fliers for the year 2009. The distinction is considered the most important prize for outstanding young managers of the German economy.

Vieregg is already the second GISMA alumnus to receive this coveted distinction. In 2006 Dr. Stefan Träger (EMBA 2003) was among the top 25.
The business magazine Karriere has been issuing competition invitations for "Career of the Year" for the last seven years. The jury, consisting of Karriere's editorial board and the board of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Karriereberatung e. V. (German Association for Career Advice), made the choice in its final selection from about 140 candidates put forward.
Those sought were under 40 years of age and, as managers, are rapid, international, entrepreneurial in their thinking, taking a view beyond their immediate field. Unlike rankings, where the distinctions are listed from place 1 to 25, all 25 managers here belong equally to the category of the 25 outstanding high flier managers of Germany.
It was not possible for the young managers to apply for the honor themselves; they had to be put forward by others. In the case of Dr. Vieregg the proposal came directly from GISMA Business School. "Dr. Vieregg is an outstanding example of an extraordinary professional development", according to Dr. Annegret Zurawski, Academic Director of GISMA. "And we are very proud of the fact that two graduates of GISMA have already received this special award."

For your information, Dr. Sebastian Vieregg's career:
Having graduated in humanities as his first degree (MA in cultural studies with a final grade of 1.0), Dr. Vieregg pursued his path single-mindedly via an additional MBA program into the management of one of the most attractive employers world-wide: Google.
After his MBA graduation he first worked as an Account Manager for Bose, one of the leading manufacturers of sound systems. At Google Dr. Vieregg began as an account manager in the field of search-machine marketing and provided expertise as the specialist responsible for "AdWords Professional" as well as for online and media agency activities for the automobile industry. As Sales Manager YouTube&Display he has meanwhile taken on responsibility for the market launch of YouTube in Germany and has already implemented several projects for this together with international corporations. This GISMA alumnus received his doctoral qualification while working professionally in the field of "Online Marketing" and can also imagine an additional academic activity.
