40th St.Gallen Symposium: Entrepreneurs ‒ Agents of Change

    The International Students' Committee (ISC) will be staging the 40th St.Gallen Symposium on the campus of the University of St.Gallen (HSG).

    When: 6 and 7 May 2010
    Location: University of St. Gallen

    The event will provide 600 decision-makers and 200 students, young professionals and junior researchers from 60 nations with a dialogue platform. Participants will include the President of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leuthard, Nestlé CEO Paul Bulcke, and the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christine Lagarde. In the Global Perspectives Barometer, 400 young people’s views on issues such as government, the economy and globalization have been evaluated for the first time this year.

    Panel discussion on the role of the state
    Friday 7 May, will start with a panel discussion on the topic “The state is not enough”.
    Doris Leuthard, Christine Lagarde and Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, will be analysing the role of the state in a mostly liberalized economy. Also in the course of Friday, the Danish entrepreneur Morten Lund will deliver his keynote address under the heading of “Entrepreneurship ‒ there is nothing to be afraid of”; he will be speaking about the ups and down in an entrepreneur’s life.

    How does the coming generation see the future?
    Every year, 200 Leaders of Tomorrow participate in the St.Gallen Symposium and enter into an intergenerational dialogue with the 600 other participants and speakers, such as the Indian Gautam Thapar, Chairman and CEO of the Avantha Group. The Leaders of Tomorrow are made up of 100 students who gave proof of their ability through an essay competition, as well as 100 young entrepreneurs and junior researchers.
