Das Deutsche Historische Institut (GHI) Washington hat den „Partner Award 2010“ des Humanities Council in Washington, DC, verliehen bekommen. Prof. Dr. Hartmut Berghoff, Direktor des GHI und Dr. Martin Klimke, Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, nahmen die silberne Trophäe für das Institut im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 30. Geburtstag des Humanities Council entgegen.
Der Preis wird jährlich an Individuen und Organisationen verliehen, die einen besonderen Beitrag zu Weiterbildung, öffentlichem Leben und Kultur leisten. Das Humanities Council ehrt damit Partnerorganisationen, die sein eigenes Programm durch vielfältige Initiativen und Projekte unterstützen. Beide Institutionen kooperierten 2009 für das „Soul of the City“- Programm des Humanities Council und initiierten zusammen zahlreiche Veranstaltungen, Lesungen und Konferenzen zu den Themen Martin Luther King, Amerikanischer Bürgerkrieg, Afroamerikanische GI‘s und Deutschland. 2011 werden die Kooperationspartner gemeinsam die Frühlings-Vorlesungen des GHI zum Thema "Crossing the Color Line: A Global History of the Civil Rights Struggle" organisieren.
